What is causing my basement walls to frost up?
Recently purchased property w/ unfinished basement. It was empty for over 18 months. Interior of the plywood is frosty like windshield. Its -10 outside and 70 inside. where the vapor barrier and insulation is missing it is fine. the stud spaces where its sealed it is icey.Air exchange is missing The the humidistat (auto controll dial) once i repace it will that fix moisture problem ,or do i have major problems?
Your description is a little unclear but I can tell you that if you have frost you have an air path to the -10 degree temps. Some how the cold air is getting to the frost areas and condensing. You will have to play detective to find the leak but it is probably fixable. Hopefully you don’t have water pipes in this area or you could have frozen pipes which is always a bad scenario.
